Cool story Ideas

One time, in a D&D campaign, one of our party members tricked a wizard into giving a god a fake idol, and then gave the god the actual idol so he could reap the reward.
There was also a book I used to read called Ubik. In it, there was half-life, a state between life and death.

I love coding in HTML with Notepad!
Just look at how BEAUTIFUL the Courier font is!

My Dream

Last night, I had a dream that I was on this really high-tech starship. My parents were super-rich, which was why they could afford the trip. I had this special "safe room" that I could visit, but my brother didn't have one. There was also this funky music playing in the background, but I didn't know what it was.

Man, I feel really tired from the run I did outside!
I know a lot about HTML and CSS, so I think I can try JavaScript soon...

List of some tags I know:

a
A link, defined by the value href. Although it is useful for a webpage, it has no purpose if the HTML document is written in Notepad purely for the purpose of practice and leisure.
p
A single paragraph. It is the most basic tag, and can be very versatile. I am not sure about this, but I think that you can create an entire HTML body using just p, img, div, and span elements. The list might be incomplete, though...
h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6
The header tags. They are there so headers can be created without having to restyle the p tag six times for each header. They don't need to exist, but save a lot of time and text.
table
It does exactly what a tag named "table" should do: it creates a table of values. It does this using the th, tr, and td tags.
th
It stands for "Table Header". It has the names for the variables which have their values shown below.
tr
It stands for "Table Row". It is the tag containing all th and tr, representing the th tag values.
span
It is a tag that gives an attribute to its content. If you want one or more attributes for your text in a certain spot, like a cool crimson color, a slick underline, or a groovy dotted border (not a dotty groove border!), you use the span tag to bring your text to a whole new level!

Reforming Toxic Habits: From Improve Your People Skills by Patrick King.

Bad Habit Definition Quick Fix
#1: Never being fully present When conversing with others, it is a good idea to express interest in your companion. If you deem other people as dull or meaningless, observant people will conclude that you dislike them, and most likely will not bother with you. Make the conversation topic interesting. Also, pay attention to the other person.
I will finish this table later...

August 21, 2019

Actually, I don't think I will finish my table.
At 1:00 PM, I will leave to get my school ID card. I am a bit anxious.
Also, I think the table needs a thin border.

I've come to realize that Improve Your People Skills by Patrick King is not a perfect book.
Instead of explaining to the reader how people work, the book simply says, "do this."
On a different note, I find rhetorical questions very irritating.
I think that I should continue reading The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson.

Writing Prompts

  • A world just like ours, but anyone can&ellip;
  • What would be the drawbacks of teleportation?
  • Take a videogame that focuses more on gameplay than story, like Doom (from 1993), or Sinistar (from 1982). Then, use one or more aspects of that game to start a story, like an enemy sprite or a setting.

Some cool sites:

  • Identifont, a site where you identify fonts by appearance.
  • Random-Art, a site where you type in something to generate an image.
  • Typeracer, a site where you type as fast as you can.

Did you know that the continued fraction for Phi is a constant repetition of ones?

Also, did you know that any Dungeons and Dragons character can be represented by a table?

For example:

Variable Content
Strength 16
Armor Class 18
Hit Points 12
GP 120
Languages Common, Draconic
Level 1

...I couldn't finish this list, because there are a lot of variables in D&D. Also, this is oversimplified: items, weapons, and spells require their own lists, and backstories are omitted from this table. (After all, the fun of RPGs like D&D is that you aren't bound by concrete limitations, as opposed to videogames.)

Never use MP3. Use Wav or Aiff or something. Also there is a code to get the original instrument sound from OS
You can find it in the Forum somewhere
Your amp sucks. Try an amp sim. They simulate good amps really well and you won't hear the noise of the guitar being played dry. You need a cab sim as well, but there are hundreds of free ones of those.
Make sure you plug the guitar into the computer rather than micing it though 
Also, nice playing

Nice sound man sounds like something from Red vs. Blue.
It sounded stressed in the beginning but, got more relaxed later on. You can tell by how you were playing faster and more free flowing.
Are you alright dude? Hope things are going well for you.

Stuff I Thought Of

This is a paragraph.
In Bill Bryson's book, A Short History of Nearly Everything, the author explains that cosmic space curves in a way that would be very difficult to comprehend.
An analogy is of a figure walking on a globe, yet thinking he is on a two-dimensional plane: he will remain on a finite surface even if he walks an infinite distance.

Alfred McClair stood watching the city outside, deep in thought. Benjamin was fast asleep. “Alright,” said McClair. “It's time to get to work.” This woke up Benjamin.
These questions are for thinking about.
  1. What were Alfred and Ben going to do?
  2. What was Alfred thinking about?
  3. Why was Alfred watching the city?
  4. Why was Benjamin fast asleep?
  5. How did Alfred meet Benjamin?
  6. Why are Alfred and Benjamin in the same room?
  7. In what city are Al and Ben in?
  8. What else is in the room?
  9. What did Benjamin think of what McClair said?
  10. What building in the city are they in?
  11. Are they in an apartment, hotel, or something else?

Terrible Writing Advice: Satirical, animated YouTube videos explaining common misconceptions about storytelling.

DYSTOPIAS - Terrible Writing Advice

Real world dictatorships come about as a result of a lot of different socio-economic factors (such as ECONOMIC DEPRESSION, EXPLOITATIVE FOREIGN TREATIES, INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT, JINGOISM, NATIONALISM, a CLIMATE OF FEAR AND UNCERTAINTY, and THREATS TO SOVEREIGNTY), but no one has time for that pesky 'research' thing, so let's just say that some vague past disaster made everything terrible!
Speaking of villains, make sure all the smart people are evil. We want to teach future generations the dangers of science, intellectualism, and free thought. We don't want our dystopian novel to actually be about thinking for yourself, after all!
We could have our protagonist be an ordinary person who chooses to rebel against an oppressive system they had previously been complacent in, proving that even average people can change a corrupt world, but that would be stupid!

From a book I have:

Omnipresent bureaucracy and a new taste of sycophants appear to be the necessary results of the destruction of civic relations and the non-command economy.
With such truths repressed, falsehoods in every field were incessantly rubbed in in print, at endless meetings, in school, in mass demonstrations, on the radio. Even more striking, for a creed, based on the notion that economic class determined consciousness, was the reliance in "agitprop"--agitation and propaganda--which constituted a state-sponsored monopolistic campaign to inculcate the Party line. The population was, in effect, deafened and disoriented. Joseph Brodsky quotes Anna Akmhmatova saying that no one could understand the Soviet system who had not been forced all day, day after day, to hear the Soviet radio. Leszek Kolakowski writes of the totalitarian attempts "to swallow all channels of human communication." The individual could not breathe a word of truth with impunity. As Isaak Babel said (in strict confidence to a trusted friend), "Today a man only talks freely to his wife--at night, with the blankets pulled over his head."

Creative Writing

I have just arrived at Saturday Academy's Creative Writing class. However, for unknown reasons, I couldn't fall asleep until it was very late. Also, I created a composite document from all of the "TxtDoc" and "CodeDoc" files, so the HTML would be streamlined, using "Style_Navy.css".
I enjoy writing stories because I think up stories all the time. They are usually action/adventure stories with no romance.
First, there are notebooks if anyone needs them. There are also letters for people's parents, with contact information. We can think about and talk about what we've been working on throughout the week. Ongoing pieces are also an option. People in this class like Kurt Vonnegut, Gary Paulsen, Ray Bradbury, Orson Scott Card, and John Green. People enjoy creating stories, connecting with characters, and sharing them with others. For your story, always ask why something happens. Nothing should happen just because. Writing can be hard, but it can also be fun. Rules should be changed if they don't work out. Respect others, respect others' work, and respect others' property. Profanity in narration will displease your audience. If a character is profane, it will displease other characters in the story.

Introducing XML

XML is an acronym for eXtensible Markup Language. It is a tool for storing and transporting data that does not rely on hardware or software. Although HTML and XML are both markup languages, XML does not have predefined tags.
XML does not do anything; it is simply information wrapped in tags. In order for XML to be executed, it must be sent, received, stored, or displayed by another piece of software.
Tags in XML must be defined by the author, along with the document structure.
XML also works even if data is added or removed. If an application is updated with added and removed elements, it can still work based on how XML is constructed.

Using Header 1 for things other than dates:

I WAS FROZEN TODAY!

That was a line from the 1991 film Suburban Commando.

The Batman NEVER USES A GUN!

That was from Detective Comics #417.

THIS REALLY STIMULATES THE IMAGINATION!

Header 1 will now be used for dates.

Man, I just love this webpage's style. I mean, here's the thing: The CSS document I used was only 23 lines long!

July 24, 2019

By the way, it's called Style_Navy, and I created it myself. I also skipped Creative Writing today, because I felt sick, and couldn't fall asleep. It is now 11:23 AM, and I will type out a passage from the Starfinder Core Rulebook.

WELCOME TO STARFINDER

Delving into alien ruins in search of lost magic. Matching wits with corporate technomancers and their robot army in the gritty streets of a space station. Strafing a dragon-crewed attack cruiser with your starship, defending a new colony from alien predators, or making first contact with a previously unknown alien empire.
Whether your tools are laser rifles, powered armor, esoteric magic, or simply your powers of persuasion, the Starfinder Roleplaying Game is a game of heroes who change the face of the galaxy, one adventure at a time.

2:40 PM

Never mind.

4:07 PM

I wonder how I will print this document?
Anyways, I'll just listen to music while I code. I hardly have anything to write about, so I'll just make up writing prompts.
  1. "After a long car ride, I was so sleepy that napping in the foliage across the ocean seemed like a viable choice. However, my friend wasn't tired at all. He simply climbed to the roof of the car, where he gazed at the large body of water. The waves across us glimmered from the rays of the setting sun. We watched for a while before I slept in the tall grass. I didn't even see the moon." What are some questions for this passage?
  2. "It's a long way back home, and..."
  3. "Sanguinary and sanctified, I am..."
  4. "I dragged myself from my bed, awakened by.."
  5. "Here I am now, preparing for..."

Lead Pencil Blues

It's just a song I heard.
"Lead in my pencil, baby start goin' bad, and that's the worst old feelin' I've ever had..."
For some reason, before I took my pills, I felt euphoric. After I took them, I became more subdued.
I also want to make a table today with my HTML.

Today, we are going to the computer lab to write our stories for an anthology of some sort. This is probably what we brought flash drives for. It is a good thing that I brought my computer with because there is a lot of time spent waiting.

Sand Rat

I actually prefer the "Billie felt sick" over the "she feels like noodles and poison needles". I dunno it just feels extremely forced and unimaginative.

harrysecombegroupie

I agree. A short, direct sentence is more powerful than several lines of forced metaphors and similes. As George Orwell said, if you can cut a word out, cut it out.

Hillary Woo

@Madeleine It's a common metaphor, but I feel the writer overdid it with the language. It reads like he/she just discovered metaphors yesterday and is now desperate to shove it in everywhere. It simply does not belong in the story, and comes on forced and at worst, amateurish. That is not to say flowery language is inherently a bad writing technique. Hurricane Fever's description was brilliant. Billie...not so much. Keep it short and sweet. Tip: do NOT overdo it. Use one, maybe two, metaphor(s), then move on. If anything, focus on the dialogue between characters. If I don't like that, I won't really care about your descriptions of the environment, no matter how beautifully they're worded.

On Listening with Intent (From Improve Your People Skills by Patrick King.)

As a general rule of thumb, I tend to listen far more than I speak. I do this because I enjoy listening to people's stories, but more importantly, I like to give others air space in a conversation. Air space is simply the room to speak without feeling like they are going to be cut off, interrupted, or not share what they wish to share. I find people speak more freely and eagerly when they are given air space.
Here's what people enjoy about conversations:
  • being entertained;
  • sharing thoughts;
  • humor;
  • learning something new.
Apparently, if people aren't listening to anything they value, then they prefer to share their thoughts and experiences. How do I feel after I left a conversation where I could hardly share any thoughts?
I am okay with lectures, but other people will most likely feel neglected and bored.
